Drying Times

Touch dry 2 hours

Dry to handle 8 hours

Dry to recoat 24 hours

Fully cured 24 hours after minimum service temperature of 150°C has been reached. Gradually heat the coating to 150°C (max. 50°C/hour).

Recommended Film Thickness

Recommended Wet Film Thickness 85 µm

Recommended Dry Film Thickness 35-40 µm

Consumption

Theoretical consumption 10-12 m² per litre at 35 - 40 µm dry

Practical consumption depends on many factors such as porosity and roughness of the substrate and material losses during application.

Application

Surface Preparation

Remove dirt, grease, oil, loose rust and all other surface contaminants by appropriate means. Sand intact coatings to roughen the surface slightly. The surface must be clean and dry during application.

Application conditions

Only apply if the air and surface temperatures are between 5 and 35°C and the relative humidity is less than 85%. The temperature of the coated surface must be at least 3°C above the dew point.

Application by brush/roller

No thinning. Use shorthaired polyamide (perlon 8 - 12 mm) rollers.

Application by Air-Atomised Spray

Dilute up to 10-15% volume with Rust-Oleum Thinner 7301.

 Application to Stainless Steel;

Blast cleaning to achieve an appropriate surface profile is the best method of preparation for stainless steel, however as Rust-Oleum Heat Resistant Paint 750°C is for general/consumer use and not professional or industrial applications we can assume that in the majority of instances blast cleaning will not be achievable. The principle of requiring a profiled surface to assist in the adhesion of the paint system remains, and so preparation advice for smaller projects that still wish to attempt it would be as follows;

The surface should be thoroughly cleaned and degreased using Rust-Oleum Pre-Paint Cleaner, followed by hand or machine abrasion to impart a scratch pattern to the surface. Use non-metallic abrasives, bonded fibre machine or hand abrasive pads - Do not use high speed rotational sanders.

We must stress the importance that this abrading process actually results in a profiled surface that can be seen by eye and felt by fingertips. Trying to achieve such a surface onto stainless steel will require extensive effort and it must be noted that this will still not ultimately equal product performance which would be achieved by the blast cleaning method referenced above.

Cleaning

With RUST-OLEUM thinners 7301.
